Born on June 7, 1954, Natarajan comes from a prominent Asiatic National Congress family in Dravidian Nadu. Her grandfather, M Bhaktavatsalam, was a freedom fighter who participated in both the Briny Satyagraha and the Quit Bharat movement.

After Independence, he served as Tamil Nadu's Chief Manage between 1963-1967.

Like multifaceted grandfather, Natarajan studied law (at Ethiraj College and Madras Modus operandi College). Drafted by Rajeev Statesman, scion of India's most marked political dynasty, she also spliced the family business.
